The National Association of Public Health Policy utilizes has issued several statements to influence national health policy and the health of the people of the United States. By proposing guidelines for leaders at the national, state, and local level, the Association promotes a progressive agenda aimed at improving the living standards, health, and welfare of all Americans, while preserving fundamental individual rights of privacy and self-determination.

In "A Public Health Approach to Mitigating the Negative Consequences of Illicit Drug Abuse" the Council on Illicit Drugs proposes 13 policy recommendations that would fundamentally alter the United States "War On Drugs". This policy statement was adopted by the Association Fall 1999 and has been published in the Journal of Public Health Policy.
